        Me David Sternthal is a founding partner of the law firm Sternthal Montigny Greenberg St-Germain llp (SMGS).

         

        Me Sternthal is head of the business law group and has an expertise in all aspects of corporate, commercial and business-related transactions. Me Sternthal has handled transactions of all sizes up to 90 million dollars.

         

        His practice is concentrated in areas of advising commercial enterprises and financial institutions. In addition to his primary areas of practice, Me Sternthal has also handled significant real estate transactions.

         

        Me Sternthal is known as a pragmatic deal maker and regularly assists domestic and foreign clients in the areas of his expertise. He also assists small and medium sized business clients with respect to their leases and other commercial matters that arise in the operation of their businesses.

         

        Me Sternthal holds an MBA degree from Columbia University in addition to having obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, Major in Economics, from McGill University as well as a Civil Law Degree from McGill University.

        • a $20,000,000 financing of a business in the IT service sector;
        • a $19,000,000 financing of a major apparel manufacturer;
        • a $3,000,000 financing of a Wind turbine manufacturer in Northern Quebec;
        • a $13,000,000 CMHC financing of a real estate portfolio;
        • a $10,000,000 financing of a wholesaler of plumbing supplies.

         

        Me Sternthal has assisted clients in securing financing from international financial institutions, including:

        • a $10,000,000 syndicated loan for a safety equipment manufacturer as part of a $160,000,000 US international financing;
        • a $3,000,000 asset-based financing for a carpet and matting manufacturer;
        • a $5,000,000 multi-creditor financing for the acquisition of an international high-precision machine shop.

        Me Jean A. Montigny was born in Baie-Comeau in the North of Quebec.

         

        As a teenager, Me Montigny rooted himself in Montreal to pursue his studies at Notre-Dame High School, Jean-de-Brébeuf College, and ultimately obtained his Bachelors of Laws (LL.L.) from University of Montreal.

         

        Me Montigny continued his studies in tax law for one year at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in the City of Toronto after receiving a Duff-Rinfret Scholarship awarded by the Department of Justice of Canada as a result of his outstanding academic achievements.

         

        Me Montigny was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1984.

         

        Having worked in restaurants as a student throughout College and University, it was only normal that Me Montigny quickly develop a very diversified business clientele.

         

        Over the years, due to the needs of his clientele, Me Montigny has perfected his knowledge of real estate law, business law and civil law, in addition to representing his clients both before administrative and judicial tribunals and before the Régie de l’énergie and the Gomery Commission.

         

        Although his clientele has grown steadily, Jean has remained faithful to his successful recipe. He listens to his clients and he always tries to know them better in order to answer and even anticipate their needs.

        Leon Greenberg is head of the Litigation Department at Sternthal Montigny Greenberg St-Germain llp (SMGS). He has been specializing in all aspects of corporate, commercial and civil litigation for more than 30 years. He has pleaded before courts of all levels, including before the Supreme Court of Canada.

        Me Greenberg combines a comprehensive knowledge of the law with a practical solution-oriented approach.

         

        Me Greenberg has a special interest and expertise in shareholder disputes, and matters involving creditor security, bankruptcy and insolvency. With respect to litigation involving individuals, Me Greenberg has developed an expertise in latent defect claims as well as succession and estate matters.

         

        Me Greenberg regularly assists domestic and foreign clients with the securing, protecting and collection of their receivables (relating to goods and services, including for construction matters). He also assists small and medium sized business clients with respect to their leases, employee issues and other matters that arise in the operation of their businesses.

         

        After graduating with distinction (with a major in economics) from Concordia University, Me Greenberg obtained his civil law degree from the Université de Montréal in 1981.

        Guy St-Germain is a partner of Sternthal Montigny Greenberg St-Germain llp (SMGS) and brings over 30 years of pragmatic representation to small and medium-size business as well as major financial institutions as a knowledgeable commercial and business attorney.

         

        Me St-Germain has developed knowledge and skills as a civil and commercial litigator having argued before all levels of the Courts in the Province of Quebec and the Supreme Court of Canada. His trial work includes lengthy cases involving civil and professional liability, security realizations, commercial disputes of all types, injunctions as well as class actions.

         

        Me St-Germain represents on a regular basis, financial institutions to assist them in completing securitized financings and corporate clients for all aspects of their business including the set-up, management, reorganization and ultimate sale or transfer of their business.         Has successfully represented and / or defended:

        • Over 40,000 students in a class action against the Attorney General of the Province of Québec (Minister of Education) with respect to overcharges to student loans. The matter, won before the Supreme Court of Canada, led to a global recovery for the students of approximately $30,000,000;
        • A client in the automotive industry before the Federal Court of Canada in a passing off and trademark infringement matter;
        • A garment manufacturer in a trademark infringement and passing off matter before the Superior Court of Québec and the Québec Court of Appeal and obtained injunctive remedies to protect the client’s interests;
        • An engineer in a professional liability claim of over $12,000,000.

        For over 35 years, Me Grenier has mastered the art of pleading before the tribunals of Quebec. She specializes in civil and commercial litigation, bankruptcy and insolvency as well as banking law and fraud recoveries.

         

        Me Grenier is also skilled in estate litigation, construction law and in the matter of latent defect claims.

         

        Having developed extensive experience and knowledge in banking law, Me Grenier renders strategic advice to her clients to maximise recovery of assets from their debtors. She also provides assistance to trustees; renders legal advice on the validity and ranking of creditors; acts in matters of bankruptcy, proposals and liquidation. Furthermore, Me Grenier proceeds to necessary examinations, discoveries to obtain facts on suspicious transactions and institutes the necessary proceedings to recover transferred sums or unpaid amounts due to clients.

         

        Moreover, the experience and the network that Me Grenier has gathered over the years enables her to quickly and confidentially retain different experts at her disposal to assist her in matters of internal or external cases of fraud. On several urgent occasions, she has intervened to prevent fraudulent sums of money from being electronically transferred internationally. In other cases, Me Grenier has protected the rights of her clients by taking interim measures to prevent frauds from affecting other related companies.         Me Stanley Reinblatt has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1971.
